For some years now I have cultivated the habit of praying for the world situation, for governments, rulers, important people and events and I’ve tried to teach this practice to others in my prayer chains and groups.
After combing through other Christian sites and publications, I came to realize this principle of desperately praying for current events seems unique to many other Christians who seem to pray very general prayers when it comes to the world situation or for a particular country or ruler. Jesus commanded us to pray and to intercede urgently for leaders and countries. Even weeping for rulers and kings or praying powerful intercessory prayers for the important figures and events being very specific and assertive. Here is a specific situation that we can pray for from Gabriel in Chile. We are at a point right now in Latin America where the old established Catholic and Christian principles are under intense attack by atheistic and so-called progressive forces encouraged by the UN and big tycoons. So it’s a time of great concern for Christian believers here in Latin America (and I might add all over the world). This is why we would like to ask for prayer for the situation in countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Argentina, Brazil, and also here in Chile. A little over a week ago, elections were held in Chile to choose representatives to the Constitutional Assembly that will be in charge of drafting the new Constitution that will govern the country for the next 30 to 50 years. The results were not promising. The worst we had expected happened. The extreme left took a sizable number of the seats in the convention, so the future of Chile looks bleak. The communists have launched an unrelenting campaign against Christian principles of love, liberty, respect, forgiveness, etc. And it seems it finally made a dent in public opinion as people voted massively for radical, violent ideologies. Also, several card-carrying communists were elected as mayors for some of the bigger cities. Not all is lost, as some of the young people and others elected for the Constitutional Convention have a certain Christian background, and although they hold to extreme radical doctrines, they are not directly tied to communist ideology. Others sincerely desire the good of the country. This gives us hope that they might make some wise, loving decisions and exert some good influence in the convention. The chance is slight, but there is still a chance. So we are focusing our prayers on that and asking the Lord to touch and move hearts inside the assembly to keep anti-God tenets out of the final text as much as possible, and that people won’t be moved by hate, revenge and bitterness, but by love of their fellow man and the common good. Thank you, for joining us in prayer against the forces that seek to eradicate Christian love and the principles of freedom, forgiveness, respect for others, etc., from our government, laws and constitutions. These sentiments we can pray for to happen worldwide. We need God’s goodness, justice, mercy and love to reign on Earth. We need to pray for rulers everywhere to be influenced by good and to stand up against injustice, violence, corruption and the flood of evil engulfing the world. |
