Special Olympics
Family Care Cambodia
Cambodian Special Olympic Games: Each year since 2007, we have partnered with the National Special Olympic Committee of Cambodia to host athletic competitions at the National Olympic Stadium for intellectually challenged children and youth. Sometimes the games consist of a variety of track and field events. Other times, there is an emphasis on team sports like soccer. The young athletes come from the capital city and from rural provinces across the country.
2016 was a milestone year, as the games included teams not only from Cambodia, but from the neighboring countries of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. We organize the donation, delivery and distribution of free lunch, snacks and drinks for all participating children, care-givers and parents, thanks to the generosity of local sponsors and businesses. Each year the success of the Special Olympic Games are a tribute to teamwork and partnership! These youth often lead a marginalized, and difficult life due to their disabilities. So it is a thrilling and uplifting experience to join together for organized games and races, be cheered on by enthusiastic spectators, and receive medals for their efforts from government officials.

Esahn Family Assistance, Thailand
Esahn Family Assistance have been doing the Special Olympics for the last 24 years! Our part of the Special Olympics is providing all of the meals, other food, snacks, drinks, fruit, treats (i.e. ice cream, donuts) for all of the participating children as well as all of their accompanying support staff. For many years there were two separate sessions of the Special Olympics (one session for the heavier autistic kids and another session at a different time/place for the simply mongoloid cases that could still interact with each other), but in recent years they have reverted to just one large session again.
Normally, we will need to provide all the necessary food, etc. for about 400 + kids as well as their support staff—about another 50 + people. Altogether we need to provide 7-8 meals over the 3 days of the Special Olympics so that comes to between 3,500--4,000 meals plus all the extra snacks, drinks, treats, etc., etc. Typically our budget is right around 100,000 baht or about $3,500 US. Serving these kids is one of our greatest joys because they are so simple, sincere, and grateful.
